I have three mobile rigs, shown here. Yaesu FTM-350AR
for APRS and VHF/UHF analog FM, Icom ID-880H for VHF/UHF D-STAR and extra analog capability, and Yaesu FT-857D for HF. Here are
some photos of the installation in our 2002 Buick Rendezvous.
The FTM-350AR control head is mounted on the dash using velcro. I found that the vacuum cup mounting bracket
did not have staying power in the Texas summer heat.
The FT-857D and ID-880H are mounted to a piece of metal bracket from the junk box that happens to fit under the lip of the dash nicely.
Below, another view of the dash mounting. The wires route nicely inside the seam of the dashboard.
The microphone arrangement, all mics attach to their respective radio body.
Driver side of the under-console storage where the radios are mounted shows the LDG YT-100 HF tuner - just push the button and it auto-tunes the 857.
Passenger side shows the radio bodies are mounted in the under console storage area. I use
some cabinet door hinges
to hold them to the wall of the area and twist-ties for the wires, so I can remove
it fairly easily if I need to. The door hinges allow me to flip the hinge
up away from the bodyl for easier installation and connections.
KD8KSN has some good information on his site about
configuring the FTM-350.
